The Sheffield Mind Magpies service, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, supports people who have difficulties with hoarding. This service was launched early in 2021 and it builds on the foundations of an earlier project which we ran in partnership with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

How Magpies works

Our staff support people to look at lifestyle, explore the reasons that might be behind their hoarding histories and look at ways of changing behaviour. Through one-to-one and group support, people can access practical advice and input to address their home conditions and other difficulties that often accompany hoarding behaviour, such as social isolation.

As well as providing one to one and group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and support in the home and community, staff run Health & Wellbeing Groups, for clients wishing to explore their hoarding behaviour and the associated emotions/barriers to dealing with the practical issues that result. Click here to find out more about the sessions and where and how you can take part.

In addition to our one to the services above, our staff also provide information and advice to individuals who have hoarding concerns and also to local professionals looking for services and practical support.

One to One Support Referral Process

Unfortunately we are not able to accept referrals for one-to-one hoarding support at the moment.

Group Support

Our groups provide a safe and supportive space in which to share experiences, gain wider awareness and get support from people with
lived experience. Friends & family are welcome to attend the session, so they are able to broaden their awareness and increase their understanding of hoarding.

Group sessions take place twice a month, the next Tuesday sessions at the Sharrow Community Forum on Sharrow Lane are as follows:

10.30am to 12.30pm – Tuesday 16 January 2024
10.30am to 12.30pm – Tuesday 13 February 2024
10.30am to 12.30pm – Tuesday 12 March 2024
10.30am to 12.30pm – Tuesday 16 April 2024
