We were delighted to take part in the recent Football Unites, Racism Divides (FURD) All Nations Football Festival – a fantastic celebration of community, diversity, and of course, football!

Alongside the brilliant action on the pitch, our Sheffield Mind team was there to chat with attendees about mental health and wellbeing, offering information and support in a friendly, informal setting. We were especially honoured to present the #FairPlay
 Award
, recognising the team that best embodied the spirit of fairness and positive play — a true reflection of the values we share with FURD.

This event is just one part of our ongoing collaboration with FURD. Every week, we run #ActiveMinds football sessions at the UMix Centre — using sport as a bridge to bring people together, promote positive mental health, and offer accessible support in a space that feels safe and welcoming.

The Wednesday sessions (1:00 – 3:00pm) regularly welcome 30–40 players from a wide range of backgrounds — many of whom are refugees or asylum seekers. No matter your ability level (you don’t have to be Pele to join in!), everyone is encouraged to take part, connect, and feel part of a community.

By working closely with the amazing FURD team, we’re proud to be breaking down barriers to mental health support and building stronger, more inclusive communities — one kick at a time.
