Forge Radio brought presenters, volunteers and listeners together for a 24-hour radio marathon in support of Sheffield Mind, raising awareness and funds for mental health support across our city.

The marathon broadcast ran continuously for a full day, with members of the Forge Radio team hosting a range of shows, interviews and special segments designed to entertain listeners while encouraging donations for us. They started with a conservative fundraising target but managed to well and truly smash it during the course of the broadcast. We spoke to event co-ordinator, Angus Hogarth, who said that that team were keen to support a local charity and were familiar with and liked the work Sheffield Mind did in the communities across the city.

Throughout the 24 hours, listeners tuned in to a variety of programming, including themed shows - Lady Gaga hour was a particular treat, discussions special appearances from members of the Forge Radio team. The event not only helped raise vital funds but also opened up important conversations about mental wellbeing and the support available to those who need it.

Forge Radio’s fundraising effort highlighted the power of student media and community collaboration, with supporters tuning in, sharing the broadcast and contributing donations throughout the marathon.

Events like this play an important role in supporting local charities such as Sheffield Mind and in encouraging open conversations about mental health within the wider community. We are incredibly grateful to Angus and the team as we know what a herculean effort went into the planning and delivery of the challenge and how much support was needed and given to make it happen.
