Jane I started working in the Sheffield Mind building in May 2022. Prior to that I had worked 'remotely' from home. That suited me as I had access to a large fan, open windows, opening French Doors, the loo, a garden and endless hot or cold drinks as needed. I was really happy with the flexible working arrangements which were put into place when the weather soon became very warm and sunny for several weeks on end. There were desk fans made available, windows were opened (and later more opening windows were put in and also roller blinds in order to improve air flow and the climate for workers.) There was also the option of leaving early when it got too warm, or working from home. The only time there has been any difficulty has been in the art room during a meeting where I was overheating but a colleague was too cold when I opened the window and put on the huge fan! These differences in experience of temperature are difficult to manage and require general compromise and understanding in order to try to keep everyone comfortable. One of the counselling rooms has no opening windows and a large stained glass window which radiates heat, so I try to avoid seeing clients in there. Open windows in counselling rooms can throw up issues of confidentiality during warm weather. When my contract was up for renegotiation I asked for hybrid working and was granted a 50/50 mix. I work in the office one day a week , which is important for peer support and team working and remotely from home one day a week with my fans on full blast during warm weather! There is a cool water dispenser with cold and ice cold water. That is a big help too. The garden room is the coolest place in the building and that is to be designated as a cool space to work if staff feel too warm. My experience of being 'Menopausal' at Sheffield Mind has been very positive. I feel accommodated and supported in my work. I know there are probable more things to do but I feel we are on the right path! Manage Cookie Preferences
