Meet our Peer Mentors Meet our wonderful group of volunteers who have dedicated the time to learn how to be someone who you feel safe with. The aim of having volunteers is to be a peer mentor to listen to anything you have to say, so that you feel like you are heard! More importantly, these peer mentors are humans who care for the wellbeing of other humans – so let us help you and help us bring gambling into the conversation because it doesn’t have to stay hidden. Meet: Ross "I’m a good Sheffield lad who keeps it real. Passionate about helping people and working hard to make a difference, in my day to day life, in my career and in whatever I’m doing. Love music, sport, trainers, the outdoors, travelling…..living! " Why I’ve chosen to volunteer: "Since being a child I’ve been through a lot of bad stuff. I feel I have a responsibility to reach out and make a difference. I want to use my life experience to help other people. It’s so important that we help each other. I support our local charities and the great work they do and I know I can contribute in a big way, I want to do it" A fun fact about me: "My favourite animal, well it’s a bird, it’s the Pink Flamingo" Meet: Xinyu "I’m studying Psychology at The University of Sheffield currently, I love rock and R&B music, volleyball, and anime. Talking and sharing thoughts/new ideas with others is my favourite thing since it allows me to learn new things about others" Why I’ve chosen to volunteer: "The reason why I chose psychology is simple – I read a novel where the main character was a psychological counsellor. It was so fascinating for me in that moment and it makes me feel like helping others is one of the greatest things to do. Choosing to be a GAPS volunteer is also because I would like to help others by using the skills I have – not only am I doing something that is within my scope to help people, but I am also developing communication skills by volunteering" A fun fact about me: "I am afraid of most animals but cats and I don’t like most vegetables but green pak choi" Meet: Greg "Hello, my name is Greg. I love sports including football, tennis and running, and I enjoy going to the cinema and listening to music" Why I’ve chosen to volunteer: "I chose to volunteer to help improve the situation of others and gambling is a cause which I am passionate about. I have done a number of voluntary placements in the past and I get a lot of fulfilment from helping others" A fun fact about me: "I’m a massive arctic monkeys fan!" So join us at GAPS Club! It’s a safe space for 16-25 year olds to talk about their experience of gambling and gambling-related harm, and meet our wonderful peer mentors first hand. Manage Cookie Preferences
