The Listening Line was launched in 2020, in response to the growing numbers of calls we were receiving from people who were experiencing isolation, loneliness, anxiety or confusion during the pandemic.

Initially for people aged 50+, we have now expanded the phone line to accept calls from adults of all ages. The line is open Monday to Friday 10-4pm and as well as phoning us directly, we offer a call-back service - people can email their name / phone number and we get back to them as soon as we can.

We offer a 30 minute call per week and a listening ear, as well as signposting and information about other services.

Thanks to generous funding from Age Better Sheffield, Mind, Sheffield City Council Covid Response Fund and the Talbot Trusts, we have kept the phone line running for 10 months and it is secure until June 2021.

However, we'd like to keep the Listening Line running to the end of the pandemic - and beyond. We know a lot of people are isolated and appreciate a regular check-in, or are worried and want to speak to a friendly person - sometimes just having someone who listens, can really help you sort your thoughts out. In the first 10 months we've received 825 phone calls but we know there are more people out there who could really benefit from a call.

We think the Listening Line is a great Sheffield resource - so we're asking you to help us keep it going. Any donation you make to this appeal, large or small, will be used to keep our phone line up and running.
